At Maple Cottage, people are not labeled with care levels or identified by their diagnoses or cognitive challenges. They are valued as individuals who are in a season of their lives where they may need support and assistance with some of life’s day-to-day tasks. We provide that support in an environment that celebrates simple victories and recognizes simple pleasures.
The Oasis Approach to providing care for seniors (and utilized exclusively at Maple Cottage) recognizes the value of each individual, and provides a path for caregiving that optimizes need-fulfillment. Each individual has different needs, and each of us have needs that change from day-to-day, and even from hour-to-hour. In addition, the expression of needs in normally recognized ways (such as speech) may be significantly hindered due to some disease processes, particularly Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias. Skillful understanding of what an individual’s needs are by those caring for them, and how they are expressed by the individual, is necessary in order for them to be physically and emotionally comfortable, and to feel understood, accepted and loved.
Consultation and Coordination of Care
Your physical wellness and the professional management of any health challenges you may have is extremely important to us. A professional Registered Nurse who has specialized in geriatric nursing for over 35 years, along with the LPNs she supervises, will partner with you to optimize your care, and will assist with the coordination of other healthcare professionals and services to promote your best possible health.
Maple Cottage maintains close professional relationships with other agencies and individuals to support and expand the care available to our senior family members without leaving home. These include a Dietician; a Social Worker; Medicare Certified Home Health for skilled nursing and physical, occupational and speech therapy; Medicare Certified Hospice services; and private care attendants and sitters. When inclusion of these services is indicated, Maple Cottage coordinates the care to promote continuity and communication.
A Nurse Practitioner visits Maple Cottage on a regular basis to manage our senior family members’ medical needs, and is available by phone to advise our staff on both routine and emergency needs. If desired, the Nurse practitioner (sponsored and supervised by a Medical Doctor) can fulfill the role of Primary Care Physician for our senior family members.
Maple Cottage serves our senior family members’ pharmacy needs through a special arrangement with a well-established institutional pharmacy. Medications are packaged in a unit-dose system, which is best practice for promoting medication safety. Medications are delivered directly to Maple Cottage, saving senior family members repeated and last-minute trips to the pharmacy.
